The Minneapolis Project

Some projects start with a vision, and this one started with a flood, when a dishwasher leak destroyed the kitchen and cascaded into the basement, gutting two floors of a 1930s Minneapolis home. What could have been a straightforward insurance rebuild became something far more intentional, because our clients, a music producer and his family, had always wanted more from this house than it was giving them, and the loss became the opening to finally get it.

A Minneapolis Kitchen Remodel Built Around Dark Green Cabinetry

We stripped the kitchen back to the studs and rebuilt it from the ground up as a fully custom kitchen remodel, beginning with dark hunter-green cabinetry that makes a statement. Unlacquered brass hardware runs throughout the space, intentionally selected for its ability to naturally develop a rich patina over time. A full-height ceramic tile backsplash behind the range and sink adds texture and pattern against the deep green cabinetry. Overhead, a vintage brass chandelier was carefully sourced and fully restored, serving as a striking focal point, while custom arched millwork echoes the home’s original 1930s architecture.

A Custom Music Production Room for a 50,000-Record Collection

The focal point of this Minneapolis renovation is the basement, where our client, a professional music producer, had amassed a collection of 50,000 vinyl records without a dedicated space to properly store or produce music. We designed and built a custom music production room fromthe ground up to address both needs, incorporating floor-to-ceiling built-in cubbies—more than 50 in total—engineered specifically for vinyl storage and spanning every wall of the space. Because the room needed to function as a working studio rather than simply a display space, we installed specialized acoustic insulation throughout, carefully selected to enhance sound quality for music production rather than simply minimize noise transfer to the rest of the home. A space that didn’t exist a year ago is now the true heart of the home.

The Result

Every material and detail in this project, from the dark green cabinetry to the custom-built record cubbies downstairs, was selected with intention and built to last.
